Gloria Carnevale is a Canadian-Italian visual artist, curator, and educator based in Shenzhen, China. Her practice combines contemporary printmaking and photography, transforming personal photographs, family archives, and images gathered from the places she lives, explores, and encounters into layered monoprints using image transfer techniques and digital processes. Working in series, she explores themes of identity, memory, place, and belonging through bold colour, pattern, rich textures, and repeated imagery.

Her ongoing series Iconic draws inspiration from photographs of her parents in their younger years, reimagining the iconic portraits her family has treasured for decades. In Floral Fragments, photographs of flowers collected from the places she calls home in Canada, Italy, and China become visual markers of place, transition, and belonging. Together, these series explore how personal histories and the environments we inhabit continue to shape who we are.

With a background in Fine Arts, Design, and Education, Gloria balances her studio practice with teaching, curating, and community arts initiatives. She is a founding member and Co-Chair of the International Shenzhen Artist Forum (ISZAF). Her work has been exhibited internationally in Canada, China, Italy, Japan, Spain, and New York, including the Affordable Art Fair Hong Kong, Expo Metro Rome and Madrid, the Awagami International Miniature Print Exhibition, and Women Beyond Borders III, a digital exhibition in Times Square, New York. Gloria also leads workshops and presents internationally, encouraging creativity, experimentation, and meaningful connections through the visual arts.

The Iconic Series is a collection of prints inspired by photographs of my parents in their younger years. Each piece is based on a cherished image that has always felt significant within my family, filled with nostalgia, energy, and personal history. Through bold colours, patterns and layered textures, I reinterpret these moments to capture their presence in a way that feels both personal and vibrant. The repetition of imagery reflects different ways of remembering and seeing them through shifting memories, moods, and moments, all connected through colour and identity. Following the passing of my mother in 2019, the series began as a way to maintain a sense of closeness to her. Over time, it has grown into a broader reflection on both my parents, their shared history, and the lasting influence they continue to have on my life.

Floral Fragments is a monoprint series rooted in personal imagery collected from my homes in Canada, Italy, and China. Each work is based on photographs of flowers encountered in these places, serving as visual fragments of lived experience and memory. Together, the works form a mapping of my life across different locations and moments in time.

As monoprints, each piece is unique, embracing variation and imperfection. The works use bold colours and layered textures to create varied compositions. The floral forms move beyond botanical representation and function as markers of place, emotion, and transition. Through this series, fragments of the everyday are preserved and reassembled, forming a visual narrative of movement, memory, and belonging.
